HS doesn’t just appear—it erupts
Often out of nowhere. Watch how HS inflammation starts.
HS actually begins below the surface of the skin.
Explore the chapters below to understand how HS inflammation unfolds.
HS is a complex inflammatory condition that starts underneath the skin. The trouble begins when a hair follicle becomes blocked, swells, and then bursts, spilling its contents into the surrounding area.
When the follicle bursts, the body sends many immune cells to the area, causing an increase in inflammation. This leads to painful HS symptoms like lumps and abscesses.
The JAK-STAT pathway is an important communication system used by the immune system.
In HS, the JAK-STAT pathway can become overactive and send too many inflammation messages. This may worsen existing HS symptoms or trigger new flares, creating an ongoing cycle of inflammation.
Incyte is committed to HS research.
We’re studying how inflammation starts and spreads beneath the skin. By exploring pathways like JAK-STAT, we’re working to better understand HS and advance treatment options that can help address this chronic condition.
HS, hidradenitis suppurativa; JAK-STAT, Janus kinase–signal transducer and activator of transcription.
